Racist SA Police Targeting Muslim Women?

Salam,



1. Last friday night, my wife was stopped by SA police on Port Road for no reason whatsoever. She wasn't speeding. She didn't commit any driving offenses. Was she stopped because she was a hijab wearing muslim?



2. The policeman was rude. Speaking in harsh tones to my wife. Please bear in mind, my wife is an Australian university qualified dental speacialist. She handles Australian patients for years. So when a white Australian is being rude to her, she knows! This is not some cross-cultural misunderstanding.



3. During the "routine random" stop, my wife produced her Malaysian driving license. But the policeman refused to accept that and demanded to see the translation of the licence, as required by law. Unfortunately, my wife had left hers at home. So she offered to present the translation at any police station the next day if so required.



4. But the policeman just flatly snubbed her, any slapped her with $450 dollars fine. Yes I know. What the fuck!



5. I suspects the fine was for "driving without licence" offence. But my wife did had a valid driving licence at that moment. Be it a Malaysian driving licence, but the word "Malaysian Driving License" is in English and the expiry date is clearly stated there.



6. Case in example, happened to other hijab wearing Malaysian postgraduate wife few weeks age, she was fined around $160 dollars for failure to produced a translated Malaysian driving license. So why the discrepancies here. How does her case differ from my wife's? In fact, she is worse because she didn't have her license translated yet.



7. Upon further investigation I have stumbled into several similar cases of Malaysian wearing hijabs being "routinely or randomly" stopped and fined for failure to produced the translated license. All just started to happen only recently.



8. Needless to say, as what happen to my wife, during the "routine/random" stop, the car was checked vigorously by the "above average" vigilant police officer. Luckily her car was in good condition. But I have heard of one Malaysian that was given the "defective" sticker.



9. So what got into the SA Police mind that made them targetting Muslim women now? Does Carnita Matthews saga in NSW recently made them wary of Muslim women drivers?



10. For those who don't have a clue, this burqa-clad "muslim" lady, was stopped by the police and fined for failure to display her P-pltes. Later she falsely accused that the policeman forcibly removed her burqa that night, only to be quashed by the on-board police car camera. She was sentenced to jail for her false claim, but later released after her appeal because the judge ruled that he cannot positively identified her in the videos because "the person" in the video was wearing a burqa. 11. As a knee-jerked reaction the NSW state government had approved a broad-range of power to the police to remove whatever needed to be removed, in order to identified anybody.(source)



12. So, it don't take a genius to figure out the mental state of police force in Australia generally or to the SA police specifically. They are pissed! And they are out for revenge. And law is on their side.



13. So what we can do is, don't give them any excuses to fine us. Please get your license translated by Dato' Hassan Salleh. It only takes a few minutes as he already got the templates ready. And its FREE!!



14. As in my wife case, I advised her to go to court. My wife is not Carnita Matthews. All Muslim women are not like Carnita Matthews.
